Top 10 Underrated Songs of the 2000's
10. Danger - 11h30 (2007)
Good luck querying "danger" in a search engine.
9. Peaches - Fuck the Pain Away (2000)
More than just dirty lyrics, this song was electrotrash before electrotrash was cool.
8. Pase Rock - Lindsay Lohan's Revenge Featuring Spank Rock (2007)
This song doesn't call for major attention but it's certainly underrated, enough to be #8 on the list. The internet (ONTD, Cobra Snake, Perez, TMZ) made Lindsay Lohan famous and in that respect, as a celebrity, she's thoroughly modern. Many people don't understand this and think she's washed up since her glory days of doing... something more spectacular. No, that's all she's ever been and Lohan is as fun as ever to talk about. Anyways, this song is about Lindsay Lohan showing her vajayjay getting out of a limozine. "Why you showin them coochi lips, gettin up out your car. Paparazzi hanginn all around you, bitch. You know you a superstar."
7. Sufjan Stevens - Jacksonville (2005)
Sufjan is the biggest name in American folk music but you'll never see this song on an i-Pod commercial.
6. N.A.S.A. - Strange Enough (Mr. Oizo remix) (2009)
This song is self-indulgent, full of rap, jarring base and repitive courus lines, so I'm amazed that it's not all over the radio, but "Strange Enough" is better than Billboard's pop. This brilliant remix of N.A.S.A. by Mr. Oizo represents the collaborative spirit that is conributing to conteporary techno. Mr. Oizo remixes N.A.S.A., which is itself a collaborative dj effort, and the remix adds rythem to a song that already has soul.
5. Architecture in Helsinki - Heart it Races (2007)
First I heard of this song was from an internet flamer ranting about the music video. I'm not the only fan of this band but there are certainly too few of us. Architecture in Helsinki has a varied style and Heart it Races has an African influence. The lyrics are innocently catchy but Architecture in Helsinki doesn't have the major-label machine behind them. In short: this is a classic case of "they should be more popular than they are."
4. Sébastien Tellier - Divine (2008)
This was France's entry to the 2008 Eurovision contest but it was controversial and failed to get strong Frecnch votes because the lyrics are English.
3. Pendulum - Tarantula (2005)
Best drum and bass song to date. But what does that earn it? Nothing. Ok, I know we can't dance to it or make a musical out of it, but it could go in advertisements, soundtracks, radio etc. And where is the indie hype? Most underrated music has a subculture worshiping it but this song has a small niche with quiet fans.
2. Death From Above 1979 - Blood On Our Hands (2005)
How could such pure rock and roll have such a strong influence on techno? After Death from Above 1979 broke up Jesse F. Keeler went on to form MSTRKRFT and remix the shit out of music.
1. Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (2007)
Techno is no longer experimental, disposable or misunderstood as demonstrated by the spearhead single of Ed Banger records. I know that indie kids and hipsters everywhere admire Justice with burning passion but D.A.N.C.E. is nonetheless severly underrated. In this song a childrens choir innocently sings to music that is purely house techno. It sounds great, but this song is a happenning of epic proportions beyond the sound. D.A.N.C.E. is the story of the success of Ed Banger records and the rise of the French techno scene. D.A.N.C.E. gave indie music something to talk about other than crappy garage bands, techno.

Tales from the Thousand and One Remixes
La Roux's Summer hit, Bulletproof, enjoyed success in 2009. More notably to me were the flood of remixes and I just blog it like I hear it. First time I heard Bulletproof was the TEPR remix, so hear is a list of just a few remixes. Many of these tracks enjoyed a full 15 minutes of fame; all of them have a special place in my heart.
